Form of output - Sound

Sound files are recorded with a microphone and are output to the user via headphones or speakers.

Sound makes video have more impact by providing spoken information as well as written information.	The quality of the sound depends on both the quality of the recording equipment and the quality of the speakers. This means that to make/ listen to a sound file with good quality you need to buy good quality speakers which are usually expensive.
Sound can be used to alert people to a certain area e,g, if a new message is received on msn a sound is produced alerting the user to a reply.	Sound files need specific software to edit and convert.

The target audience of an image can be:

• Someone who wants to listen to music, such as a favorite band/ singer.
• Someone watching an advertisement of a product may want sound to gain information which is not provided on screen.
• Someone using a sound file to gain a greater understanding of a subject e.g. listening to a debate between two political groups will give you a greater understanding of the subject.
• A company which makes saftey systems, these companies will use sound as a method to alert someone who may be in danger eg a fire alarm.
